Meet Dr Esther Riggs
I am a BPS Chartered Counselling Psychologist with a BSc Hons in Psychology (University of Wales, Cardiff), a Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Therapy (University of Oxford) and a Practitioner Doctorate in Counselling Psychology (University of Surrey). I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). I have undertaken postgraduate training in clinical supervision and I am an Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and Supervisor with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
I have practised as a Counselling Psychologist for 18 years, in the NHS, Higher Education and private settings, offering individual and group CBT, training and supervision to other mental health professionals. I have taught CBT nationally and internationally on behalf of Oxford Cognitive Therapy Centre. I have also worked for the University of Oxford Mindfulness Centre, where I was extensively involved in training and teaching Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).
As a Counselling Psychologist, I believe that if we can function well psychologically, we are better able to function to our full potential in all areas of life.

My clinical experience is in helping adults with a broad range of mild-moderate mental health problems including depression, anxiety and complex trauma/post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Clients also come to see me for help with managing painful emotions, coping with loss, building self-esteem and improving relationships. Clinically, I use a range of psychological models including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness-based approaches. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).
I hold professional indemnity insurance and I am registered with the Information Commissioners Office. I am also registered provider with Bupa, AXA PPP and Aviva Health UK.
